The DVBIA's Emerging Leader Award, recognizes an entrepreneurial spirit and an early track record of innovation. The Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association
recognized The Urban Tea Merchant as this year's Emerging Leader at the annual Downtown Appreciation Awards on June 23rd, 2016.
The Urban Tea Merchant has imported a decidedly unique concept to North America: The luxury of tea. The family-run company operates a signature store complete with a Tea Salon boasting white linen tablecloth and exquisitely-crafted, tea-infused edibles.
This flagship location at 1070 West Georgia Street will soon be converted into the first TWG Tea Salon & Boutique in North America. The Urban Tea Merchant are currently the Exclusive Canadian distributors of TWG Tea and are served in luxury hotels, retailers and restaurants in Canada such as Rosewood Hotel Georgia, Nosh, Hawksworth Restaurant, Loden Hotel, Edgewater Casino, Nordstrom, and Tiffany & Co.
The Urban Tea Merchant has been a staunch and visionary advocate for neighbouring Alberni Street ever since setting up shop in the area, always coming to the table with innovative ideas. They've formed partnerships with the Goh Ballet's Nutcracker Ballet, and Holt Renfrew, and eagerly volunteered to hang sound-activated lights on cherry blossom trees outside their plaza for the DBVIA public space program Chromesthesia.
Family members teach a Tea Association of Canada certified Tea Sommelier Program at Vancouver Community College, and their skilled chefs serve tea-infused food and signature cocktails - all in keeping with the international rituals of tea.
"We are entrepreneurial. We experienced the luxury of tea in Paris and fell in love with that old world charm. That's what we've brought to Vancouver. The DVBIA has been incredibly supportive of our overall vision."
