The Urban Tea Merchant team were featured guests of City Breakfast TV this week in partnership with the Indian Summer Festival.  The Urban Tea Merchant is pleased to offer our luxury Indian Tea Party and Tea Tasting experience during the Indian Summer Festival Literary series on Sunday July 17th at the SFU Woodwards Centre of the Arts, Downtown Vancouver.  Imagine the enjoyment gained from sitting down and reading a great Indian novel while savouring a sip-sip tea experience.

During our first  journey around the world in 2001 search of learning more about the experience of tea, Karinna and I was particularly captivated with India.  Not only is India a major tea growng nation but it is also a country who's culture is significantly 'steeped' in the rituals of tea.  

During our Indian Tea Party and Tea Tasting we are going to explore those rituals of tea we discovered on our visit to India.  Our guests will enjoy a selection of tea infused sweets and savories taken from The Urban Tea Merchant Tea Salon Menu.  They will taste the luxury teas from our new collection of TWG Tea. They will enjoy the tast of a beautiful first flush Darjeeling from the Castleton Estates as well as the Maharajah Darjeeling, a special 1st and 2nd flush blend specifically created from TWG Tea.  They will experienced the unique spiced chai blends from TWG Tea and learn more about how the Indian Chaiwallas prepare and sell their Chai Tea on most every Indian city street corner.  Most of all our guests will be swept on an imaginary journey to India while sipping tea and having conversations about the Indian authors they met and the fine Indian Literature available.

Journeys with Heart and The Urban Tea Merchant

The Urban Tea Merchant and Journeys with Heart partnered together to host a wonderful evening to showcase travels around the world. Guests met and mingled with celebrity chefs and media personalities with Tea-Infused Jade of Africa Champagne, Tea Sangrias, and canapés made by Chef John Bishop and The Urban Tea Merchant. 

Journeys with Heart - Travel with a Purpose is an organization that offers travel with a celebrity guest host to an exciting destination such as Argentina, Chile, Vietnam, Cambodia and more. Included in the cost is a donation to a local charity such as Big Sisters, Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and Minerva. What a wonderful way to give back while enjoying the world in a unique way.

Tea & Fashion at The Urban Tea Merchant

The Urban Tea Merchant Garden Tea and Fashion Show featuring new collections from Ports 1961 was held on our Alberni store Patio.  Around 100 guests attended and it was a great success!  They sipped tea-infused Champagne and were served delicious summer savories and sweets such as the new TWG Tea infused Macarons. 

The new Ports fall fashions were unveiled. The patio was decorated with bright pink, green and yellow lanterns hanging from our wonderful cherry blossom trees.  After the Ports Fashion Show, guests lined up at The Urban Tea Merchant Loose Leaf section to smell and taste all of the new TWG that had just introduced.

India Summer Literary Tea Service on July 17

Join Shrabani Basu and other writers for high tea following Shrabani Basu's reading. Spend an hour in conversation with fellow bibliophiles while enjoying an immaculate Indian-themed afternoon tea service by The Urban Tea Merchant

The tea menu includes four fine Indian teas: Tiger Hill (Nilgiris), Royal Darjeeling (First Flush Darjeeling), Maharajah Darjeeling (Blend of First & Second Flush Darjeeling with sweet spices) and Indian Night (black tea with piquant spices). Accompanied by finger sandwiches, petits fours and macarons. 

The Urban Tea Merchant has partnered with The Vancouver City Indian Summer Festival to present you this special event as part of the festival's literature series.  Indian Summer Festival is a high-profile festival of arts and ideas, running July 7-17, 2011 in downtown Vancouver, and will feature top contemporary and classical Indian talent in music, dance, literature, film, yoga, and cuisine - pairing some of India’s most renowned performers and thinkers with local Vancouver counterparts.
